11/26/09 Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving! I would like to give thanks to my clients and their furry families for supporting Whole Pets Austin in 2009; may we all continue next year and the following to teach, nurture and love one another.

Here's a piece of trivia I found interesting from Stanley Coren's "Why We Love the Dogs We Do":

* Dogs were domesticated at least fourteen thousand years ago, which is about four thousand years before humans began to develop organized agriculture.

* The earliest evidence of domesticated cats dates back seven thousand years (well after the agricultural revolution was underway) when cats were kept around to hunt the mice that raided stored grain harvests.

Hello world!

I would like to begin by posting a New York Times article from Oct. 5 entitled,
"Exploring the Health Benefits of Pets."
I was excited to learn that the National Institues of Health is embarking on extensive research on this topic thanks to funding from the Waltham Center for Pet Nutrition in England and the National Institute of Nursing.

Author Karin Winegar who has studied animal-human interactions throughout the United States confirms what many of us believe already, "The human-animal bond bypasses the intellect and goes straight to the heart and emotions and nurtures us in a way that nothing else can."
